The Fastest Eco Boat on the planet!

The fastest eco boat on the planet will attempt to break the round the world speed record using fuel made from human fat. Pete Bethune, the New Zealand skipper of Earthrace, said the attempt to circumnavigate the globe would begin from Valencia in Spain on March 1 next year.

Bethune and his wife mortgaged their house and sold everything they own to help make the project happen, while continuing to seek support from sponsors.

Record breaking attempt: Earthrace will attempt to circumnavigate the globe running 100 per cent biodiesel, and with a net zero carbon-footprint. Earthrace is a 78 foot alternative fuel powered wave-piercing trim ran, it can carry 3,000 gallons of fuel, and weighs 23 tonnes when fully fuelled. Demonstrating further commitment to the cause, Bethune underwent liposuction and donated enough to produce 100ml of biofuel, while two other, larger volunteers also had the procedure, making a total of 10 liters of human fat.

These in turn produced seven litres of biofuel, which could help the boat travel about 15km. Earthrace is fuelled on 100 per cent biodiesel and has a net zero carbon footprint. The announcement was made at the QE2 pier in Greenwich where Earthrace is being hosted by Greenwich Council until January 1.

Circumnavigating the globe represents the pinnacle of powerboat challenges, and more than 24,000 nautical miles is the world’s longest speed challenge.

Pete Bethune, the New Zealand skipper of Earthrace, believes the boat can help advance biodiesel as a genuinely viable alternative to petroleum diesel. The current record holder is British boat Cable and Wireless Adventurer which took 75 days in 1998. From the start in Valencia the boat will cross the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans and travel through the Panama and Suez Canals.

From there the boat will cross the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans as it thunders along the planet’s circumference at a maximum speed of 40 knots. When it attempts to break the Round the World Speed Record, the goal is to do 20-25 knots (23-29mph) almost continually for 65 days. The not-for-profit project aims to promote awareness of the environment and the sustainable use of resources.

Inside Earthrace: The not-for-profit project aims to promote awareness of the environment and the sustainable use of resources. Earthrace, which cost about £1.5 million to build, can carry 3,000 gallons of fuel, and weighs 23 tonnes when fully fuelled.

The boat is designed to cut through waves rather than sail over which enables the boat to go faster through big seas compared to conventional craft. Bethune believes Earthrace can help advance biodiesel as a genuinely viable alternative to petroleum diesel.

He said: -Governments have a role to legislate to make biofuels happen.

Route to success: The boat will cross the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans and travel through the Panama and Suez Canals. If it were up to market forces, biofuels wouldn’t happen at all. Politicians in Western Europe must be prepared to stand up to the oil industry, and be more supportive of the biofuels industry to make sure the production of biofuels is sustainable. A successful attempt by Earthrace would mark the first time in history that an official UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique - The International Powerboating Association) Powerboat world record has been broken using only renewable fuel.

Being Vegetarian decreases chance of Heart Disease

In 1999, a meta-analysis of several vegetarian and vegan mortality studies was conducted. The results of these studies were compared together and re-analyzed. The researchers concluded that even reducing meat in your diet had a significant effect on lowering your rate of disease. People who ate meat just once a week had a 20% lower rate of dying from heart disease, and their over-all mortality rate was reduced by 10%. Those who ate only fish saw as much as a 34% reduction in heart disease death, while their over-all mortality was lowered by 18%.

In the same sense, the more you reduce consumption of animal products, the more you appear to benefit. Only 7% of the vegans studied died of cancer (lung, stomach, and colorectal). Alarmingly, 19% of over-all deaths in the US are from cancer.

Kangaroo Farts Could Help Global Warming

Loyal Fat Knowledge reader Climateer concerned that I lost my ambition to become a cow fart tycoon, alerts me to some "breaking" news:

Australian scientists are trying to give kangaroo-style stomachs to cattle and sheep in a bid to cut the emission of greenhouse gases blamed for global warming, researchers say.

Thanks to special bacteria in their stomachs, kangaroo flatulence contains no methane and scientists want to transfer those bacteria to cattle and sheep that emit large quantities of the harmful gas.

"Not only would they not produce the methane, they would actually get something like 10 to 15 percent more energy out of the feed they are eating," said Klieve.

"Fourteen percent of emissions from all sources in Australia is from enteric methane from cattle and sheep," said Athol Klieve, a senior research scientist with the Queensland state government.

But it will take researchers at least three years to isolate the bacteria, before they can even start to develop a way of transferring it to cattle and sheep.

Sounds good to me. But 3 years? What are these guys doing that is so difficult?

Another group of scientists, meanwhile, has suggested Australians should farm fewer cattle and sheep and just eat more kangaroos.

"It's low in fat, it's got high protein levels it's very clean in the sense that basically it's the ultimate free range animal," said Peter Ampt of the University of New South Wales's institute of environmental studies.

"It doesn't get drenched, it doesn't get vaccinated, it utilizes food right across the landscape, it moves around to where the food is good, so yes, it's a good food."

Man, those Australians will throw anything on the Barbie.

Don't try this in Office

Does your coworker have a special mug, plant, or other desk object that you think should be kidnapped? If so, this prank is for you.

Requirements:

  • Time (low) - takes very little time to “kidnap” something from your coworker and create a ransom note for it.
  • Cost (none) - this prank won’t cost you a thing.
  • Risk (low) - there’s very little risk with this prank. As long as your coworker doesn’t go completely wild when you take their favorite item, nobody should get hurt.

Steps:

  1. Create a ransom note for your coworker’s object. It’s best to make it by cutting out the letters from magazines just like they do it in the movies. It will take more time to do it this way, but it’ll be worth it. The first ransom note should just say that you’ve got their object and that a list of demands will follow. Do not include your name.
  2. Take a picture of the object then take it and leave the note on their desk or chair.
  3. Create another ransom note that will include the photo and a list of demands. Some fun demands include making them say “I’m a happy person” out loud three times, telling them to leave exactly 42 cents in pennies on the water cooler while counting them out loud, and to have them change their desktop wallpaper to a picture of the band Hansen.
  4. Once they’ve met the list of demands, put back the object where you got it and leave a final note that says something along the lines of “I’ve returned your precious [name of the object]. Don’t let it happen again.”

Result:

The great thing about this prank is that if your coworker really cherishes the thing you take, you should be able to get them to do some pretty hilarious stunts. I mentioned a few funny ones above, but you should be able to come up with many more fun hoops for your victim to jump through. Most of the demands should entail having your coworker do some form of public humiliation, such as the “I’m a happy person” out loud gag.

Also, once the prank is done, the victim is left with a note telling them to “not let it happen again”. This will make them think they actually did something to make you take the object. They’ll struggle to try and figure out who they pissed off. They may even think they figured it out and actually go up to different people to apologize thinking it was them.

How to Play with Wallpaper in Windows XP

You see your Windows XP wallpaper everyday when you power on your computer. I often get very bored of my desktop and it’s wallpaper very quickly. So why not trick it out with a video, or a webpage. Or get it to change every hour to a new one?

Automatically Rotate Windows XP Wallpapers

Back in the old days changing your Windows XP wallpapers was mainly done by going into your desktop properties and clicking on a new wallpaper, and changing it to that one, then repeating once every other day. But now we have a solution. Windows Power Toys Wallpaper Changer (If that link doesn’t work here’s a mirror).

The Wallpaper changer can be set to change wallpapers from 15 minutes to 1 week. You can manually skip pictures, or choose one to show up as long as you want. You can configure the folder that it gathers its wallpapers from. As well set a certain wallpaper folder to show images up for special dates like Easter and Christmas.

Use A Webpage as your Windows Wallpaper

This trick doesn’t involve any fancy software or anything new to download and install, its functionality is already built into Windows XP. You can use your wallpaper as a portal to the World Wide Web, load up your computer and you already have you Google Home Page sitting on your desktop.

Right click on your desktop. Click on ‘Properties’. Click the ‘Desktop’ tab. Click ‘Customize Desktop…’ button. Click on the ‘Web’ tab. Now click on ‘New’ and put a URL address, then click ok, and click ok to the active desktop message. Click ‘Ok’ then hit ‘Apply’ and voila.

You should have a small window on your desktop that resembles the web page you typed in earlier. You can resize this window, make it cover the entire desktop or a part of the desktop.

Replace Your Boring Windows XP Wallpaper with Videos like DreamScene

If you’ve not heard of DreamScene, it’s the Windows Vista Ultimate version of using really cool videos of nature and sea creatures as wallpaper backgrounds.

It’s only available on Windows Vista Ultimate version as an extra download, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use a just as good Windows XP alternative, VLC Media Player.

VLC Media Player is popular for being able to play almost any video, and doesn’t require specific codecs. Whenever I’ve needed a video played that Winamp, Windows Media Player, and the like can’t play I’ve always come back to VLC and it’s been able to play it amazing.

Now, the key to replacing our Windows XP wallpaper with video is in right clicking on the video and selecting the ‘Wallpaper’ option. If the wallpaper option doesn’t show up go to Settings -> Preferences -> Video -> Output Modules -> Direct X, and check the ‘Advanced’ box in the bottom right corner. Then go back and try to right click on the video.

Setting up Windows XP wallpaper for Dual-Monitors

Windows XP has built in functionality for dual monitors; however the customization options are limited when it comes to setting up wallpapers via your dual monitors. You can have the same wallpaper on each monitor and that’s about it. If you have dual-monitors I highly recommend that you invest in a tool such as Ultramon, or Multi-Monitor Wallpaper Tool, which is free. I’ve dabbled around with Multi-Monitor Wallpaper and couldn’t quite figure out how to work it to my advantage, and I already had Ultramon so I just decided to stick with what worked for me. Also with Ultramon you can make it so your taskbar will extend over to the second monitor without it being stretched, and the taskbar will only show the programs that being used on that monitor, a feature I find quite handy for multitasking.

With Ultramon you just select which wallpapers you want for each monitor, click apply, and there you have it, and if you have a dual-monitor wallpaper you can use that to span across both screens, something Windows XP can’t do.

In the above examples, the line in the middle between the two wallpapers signifies my separate monitors, I took two themed wallpapers that I happened to have on hand, and used Ultramon so I could use both of them on the separate monitors. Oh, and I love Megadeth.

New catholic church in Qatar

March 15, 2008 will go down the annals of the Catholic Church in the Vicar Apostolic of Arabia and Qatar as a day on which the dreams of millions of Catholics, both religious and lay people, saw the light of the day, a day on which the first Roman Catholic Church in Qatar was officially consecrated.

The first mass was celebrated today by His Eminence Cardinal Ivan Diaz and concelebrated by His Excellencies Arch Bishop Mounged El Hachem, Apostolic Nuncio to Qatar, Bishop Paul Hinder, Vicar Apostolic of Arabia, Bishop Bernard Gremoli, Former Vicar Apostolic of Arabia, Archbishop Giuseppe De Andrea, Former Apostolic Nuncio to Qatar, Bishop Camillo Ballin, Vicar Apostolic of Kuwait and a galaxy of priests. Former priests who have previously served in Qatar were also present; one of the earliest priests Fr. Gerry Dunne being 89 years of age. The other former priests were Fr. Leszek Wisniewski, Fr. Jerome Peedikaparambil and Fr. John Van Deerlin. Fr John has served this parish in Qatar from 1989 and 2002 and holds a very special place in the hearts of the parishioners. Fr. Lester Mendonsa, the predecessor of Fr. Tomasito Veneracion, the present parish priest of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, who served this parish from 2002 to 2005, was unable to be a part of this celebration and was sorely missed.

Power and Need of water

What is it that makes water so important? You have an idea? I'll tell you what I think. The most important thing about water is that we need it badly. So badly that if we don't drink it, we die. Long before you would die from starvation, you'd die from dehydration.

Now what does that tell us? It tells us only one thing. Water consumption is one of the most important parts of our diet. Our body needs, no craves water badly. When you don't drink enough water, your body will suffer. You probably already know that 70 % of our body is made of water. Sweating, breathing, living,... you lose water all the time!

Let's take a look at some of the main bodily functions in which water plays an important role.

Water is essential for our bodily functions

  • Water protects our organs and body parts and holds them together.
  • Water is essential for our body cells, it gives them strength.
  • Water is used to transport nutritients, waste matter, hormones and other things in our body

Water can help you maintain and lose weight

  • Drinking water before a meal will regulate your appetite, making you feel full and satisfied a lot faster. As a result you will eat less and for that, lose weight.
  • Drinking water gives your metabolism a small boost, because your body will be well oiled.

Water helps cure other health issues

  • Drinking more water will make you retain less water.
  • One glass of water can sometimes cure a headache.
  • Waters Lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.
  • Water Decrease chance of kidney stones.
  • Water gives you energy when you feel tired

Ways to Convert Word To PDF Document

PDF, or Portable Document Format, is Adobe's solution for creating documents that can be read almost anywhere. By downloading Adobe's free reader, a PDF file can be read on almost any computer, and even portable devices such as PDAs.

But how do you create a PDF in the first place?

As is often the case, there are several answers...

The "official" way is to purchase a copy of Adobe Acrobat. Acrobat's purpose in life is to create PDF's. It installs several tools, including a Word macro that makes creating PDF's from Word a single-click operation. It also installs a Windows printer driver that will allow you to create PDFs from any application that can print.

Adobe also has an on-line solution Create Adobe PDF Online, that will allow you to create PDFs. It's a subscription service, but the first five PDFs are included in a free trial.

A Google search turns up many pdf conversion programs, ranging from free to inexpensive. Their capabilities vary, so it would be wise to investigate and try a few before investing any money.

Yet another solution is the free Open Office. Open Office is a free suite of office applications, including a Word processor much like Microsoft Word. Open office can read Word documents, and can create PDFs. Again, the feature set is similar, but not identical to Word and Acrobat, so compatibility may still be an issue. But the price is right, and it's a well supported open source application with a very active user community to help.

For the record, if you're planning on professional PDF content creation as part of a business strategy, the investment in Acrobat is probably worth it. No issues of compatibility or missing features that way. If you're just experimenting, then the free or inexpensive converters are a good way to go.

Dare to that in office

What do you do with 400 free bags of Cheetos? Dump them into the office of an unsuspecting co-worker while he's out at lunch, of course. And stay way as much you can, or else be prepared for attack from them.

Good if you become vegetarian

Hundreds of different studies concur, showing that vegetarians who eat balanced diets have lower rates of coronary artery disease, hypertension, obesity, and certain cancers. Registered Dietician Winston Craig says that meat eating costs Americans somewhere between $30-$60 billion per year in medical expenses for hypertension, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, gallstones, obesity, and food-borne illnesses associated with meat. Craig says that a vegetarian diet is associated with lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, and less obesity.

In 1997, the World Cancer Research Fund recommended a vegetarian diet for reducing the risk of cancer. Lifelong vegetarians have 24% less heart disease, while vegans have an astounding 57% less. A comprehensive study of a vegetarian religious group, the Seventh Day Adventists, found that they had half the rate of high blood pressure and diabetes, half the rate of colon cancer, and two-thirds the rate of arthritis and prostate cancer as other groups (2001). Furthermore, Cornell University reported that eating less meat did more to reduce osteoporosis than supplementing your diet with calcium.

Prank: Dare to do that

First buy lots of paper cups (it’s important to get paper, not plastic or foam, you’ll see why in a minute).

And I mean lots. Dozens and dozens.

Arrange them over every possible inch of space on the victim’s desk.

Then staple them all together as close to the rim as you can, each cup to the ones on each side, so they are all attached. (This is why you need paper cups, foam or plastic split or disintegrate.) Wherever one cup touches another at the rim, staple.

Next, fill each cup as full as you can possible get it - surface tension full - with water.

Finally, retire to a safe distance, wait, watch and enjoy.

Doctor advice

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor’s office. After the check-up, the doctor took the wife aside and said, “If you don’t do the following, your husband will surely die”.

1. Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast and send him off to work in a good mood.

2. At lunch time, make him a warm, nutritious meal and put him in a good frame of mind before he goes back to work.

3. For dinner, fix an especially nice meal, and don’t burden him with household chores.

4. Have sex with him several times a week and satisfy his every whim.

On the way home, the husband asked his wife what the doctor had told her.

“You’re going to die,” she replied.

BEER: Not just a cool drink

Beer is the world's oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage. Some of the earliest known writing refers to the production and distribution of beer.

Beer can be used for other purposes.

“For stains on carpet, a light beer (any kind of yellow beer will do) will pick it up. The smell leaves something to be desired, but if you steam clean the spot afterwards the smell goes with it."

"Soak your hair in beer, and go lay out in the sun. It pulls out some great highlights. Make sure to shampoo afterwards, or you'll smell like a brewery!"

Make money using Adsense

There are two major types of business models that entrepreneurs use to make money blogging. The first and most common way to turn a blog into a profit making machine is to sell advertising to different companies and brands who want to reach that blog's readers. The second kind of money making blog is one that helps a single brand improve its image by creating positive associations between the blog and the product in the mind of consumers. Both kinds of blogs can make a lot of money, especially if the creator has a keen mind for marketing.

If you are blogging with the goal of selling advertising, there are two basic ways that you can go about recruiting sponsors who want to put ads on your site; you can let someone else do all of the legwork, or you can do the work yourself and keep all of the revenue. Within the first group, many people make money blogging by selling space through Google's AdSense program. The advantages of this program are numerous, as it requires very little effort on the part of the blogger or webmaster to begin raking in profits. However, most people discover that they make less money through this method than they had hoped that their blog would earn.

Selling advertising directly to companies who want to put banner ads or sponsored links on your blog can take quite a bit of time, but it is often fairly lucrative. If you have a lot of contacts in industries that are related to the topic of your blog, you may want to try to go this route.
People who have a strong background in sales and are experienced at pitching proposals can make quite a bit of money by renting blog space to interested companies. The most serious problem with this model is that you often have to build quite a sizable readership before you
can attract advertisers, which can mean that you have to do several months of work before you start to make money blogging.

As blogging becomes a more and more lucrative business, a lot of established companies are considering how they can get into the action. One way that companies are capitalizing on the blog movement is by having blogs that provide a kind of friendly face for their corporation. Often, a company will employ an established blogger to create a weblog designed specifically to appeal to that company's customers and to create positive associations with the brand in
consumers' minds. More than one writer who never even dreamed that he or she could make money blogging has been approached by a company and offered quite a pretty penny for this kind of gig.

Highest Vitamin C Source

The fruit highest in Vitamin C, Guava, is native to Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America. 100 grams of Guava contains 228 mg of Vitamin C where one fruit contains about 128 mg. In the picture above, Guava is the pink fruit on the left. The whole fruit is edible, but the seeds can be a pain in the ass. The rind can be sour but has the most amount of Vitamin C (said to have 5 times as much as an orange) - good reason to put it all into your green smoothie and make use of it all.

So there you have it. If you’re looking to find the fruit highest in vitamin C or the top Vitamin C containing fruits, look no further than your basic Guava, Papaya, Strawberries, Kiwi, Cantaloupe, Orange and Grapefruit. Eat them raw, eat them alone on an empty stomach and give them 30 to 45 minutes to pass through your stomach where they’ll deliver all their nutrient rich goodness.

Differences between Women n' Men

1. NAMES:

If Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara go out for lunch, they will call each other Laurie, Linda, Elizabeth and Barbara.

If Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom go out, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Scrappy.

2. EATING OUT:

When the bill arrives, Mark, Chris, Eric and Tom will each throw in a $20, even though it's only for $32.50. None of them will have anything smaller and none will actually admit they want the hange
back.

When the women get their bill, out come the pocket calculators.

3. MONEY:

A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs

A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale.

4. BATHROOMS:

A man has five items in his bathroom: a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor, a bar of soap, and a towel from the Marriott.

The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 337. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

5. ARGUMENTS:

A woman has the last word in any argument.

Anything a man says after that is the beginning of a new argument.

6. CATS:

Women love cats.

Men say they love cats, but when women aren't looking, men kick cats.

7. FUTURE:

A woman worries about the future until she gets a husband.

A man never worries about the future until he gets a wife.

8. SUCCESS:

A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can spend.

A successful woman is one who can find such a man.

9. MARRIAGE:

A woman marries a man expecting he will change, but he doesn't.

A man marries a woman expecting that she won't change and she does.

10. DRESSING UP:

A woman will dress up to go 4 shopping, to water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, and read the mail.

A man will dress up for weddings and funerals.

11. NATURAL:

Men wake up as good-looking as they went to bed.

Women somehow deteriorate during the night.

12. OFFSPRING:

Ah, children. A woman knows all about her children. She knows about dentist appointments and romances, best friends, favorite foods, secret fears and hopes and dreams.

A man is vaguely aware of some short people living in the house.

13. FINAL THOUGHT:

Any married man should forget his mistakes.

There's no use in two people remembering the same thing.

To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities...

Not so cheap Beds

BedUp is a good, practical way to free some space in your home. When you need the bed - just lower it from the ceiling and when you don’t you can return it to the ceiling. BadUp is easy to use, I mean getting it up and down, there’s only one button. You can stop the bed at any level. There are also lamps in the bottom of the bed so when you are not using it it becomes a ceiling with lamps. BedUp costs from $4,300 not the cheapest bed in the word but definitely the most practical.

Lemon can do wonders for you

"Use lemons to stop excessive perspiration under the arms. Cut a thin slice and place it under each arm for about 30 min. It will dramatically reduce the "pit drench" when coupled with a good anti-perspirant. This works well for about 1 week and then must be repeated"

"To remove rust stains from fabric, saturate the stain with fresh lemon juice, then cover with a layer of table salt. Rub the salt into the juice, making a thick paste. Wait for the juice to dry completely, then brush or wash the salt off. The rust will be gone."

"You can also remove onion or fish (or whatever) smell from your hands by just squirting with lemon juice, "washing" and rinsing."

"Cats HATE the smell of citrus, so lightly rubbing your wood furniture with orange or lemon rinds or oils will help deter cats. It doesn't do much for dogs, though."

Unlock Your Locked GTalk Account

Google sometimes locks your GTalk account either by mistake or for whatever reason that they deem fit . The same happened to me last night and it took me quite a while to realise that my account was locked. Here is how I unlocked it.

If you see Account locked after trying to log in, follow these steps:

  1. Using the same computer on which your Google Talk logins are failing, click here.
  2. Enter your Google Account username and password, and the letters in the distorted picture.
  3. Once you have successfully logged in, restart Google Talk and try to sign in again.

That’s it. Your GTalk Account is unlocked!

Successful Diet

#1: Ask for support from the people you live with

When you want your diet to be successful, you should be making long term changes. You will be buying healthier foods and leave junk on the shelves at the store. When the people you live with don't support you and keep buying all the junk food, you'll have a hard time sticking to your healthy ways.

There will be times you won't be as motivated to stick to your healthy food. Then, when junk food is close within reach, things could get ugly. Try to work things out with the people you live with, convince them to buy less junk and inform them about healthier foods.

#2: Make time for your diet

In a successful diet plan it is recommended to eat 1 small meal every 3 hours. If your way of living doesn't allow you to prepare healthy meals and eat them at regular intervals, you should try to change your lifestyle somehow.

You can't expect to be eating healthy when you don't make time to buy, cook and eat healthy food. A stressful way of living doesn't attribute to a healthy lifestyle in the first place.

A blog focusing on a healthy eating for the busy people is Dietriffic, personally one of my favorite nutrition / health blogs out there. The latest post at dietriffic, Help: I Don’t Like Fruit and Veggies!, happens to discuss the things mentioned in the first two tips. Definitely go check it out.

#3: Inform yourself about nutrition

Now this is the essential part. When deciding what to eat you should know what is healthy and what is not. Sure, you could let a weight watchers program decide that for you and you would be counting points. Or you could just find out what types of food are healthy and what food is unhealthy.

For this I recommend the book Eat, Drink and be Healthy by Walter Willett. This book explains all the important nutrition basics you should know when you want your diet plan to be successful. In this book Walter Willett talks about:

  • what a healthy weight is
  • dietary fat
  • carbohydrates
  • protein
  • fruits and vegetables
  • what to drink
  • calcium
  • vitamins
  • what to believe about food

Walter Willett is an epidemiologist and nutrition researcher for the Harvard School of Public Health and is highly respected by his peers, as he's the second most cited scientist in Clinical Medicine. (Epidemiology is the study of factors affecting the health and illness of populations).

An alternative would be to read trustworthy articles and blogs on the internet, while remaining critical about what you read. Don't just believe everything that's being written. Health and dieting is big business. People will say all kinds of things just to sell their bogus products.

Just remember, A successful diet plan is a diet plan you can follow for the rest of your life.

#4: Exercise!

This is obvious, but worth repeating because it's so important. It doesn't matter how you exercise, just make sure you elevate your heart rate a few times per week. By exercising you strengthen your muscles, elevate your metabolism, increase your cardiac health and burn the additional calories which will ultimately lead to weight loss. Exercising will also increase your appetite, making it easier to eat your healthy foods, if you haven't yet learned to fully appreciate them.

#5: Know that the diet plan will become easier

At the very beginning of your diet you may find it very hard to stick with the healthy food. You might think it doesn't taste as good and you might crave the junkier food. This will change after a while when your body had time to detox and lose the junk food addiction. Indeed, junk food is filled with additives, high-glycemic carbs and other products that make you addicted to them. The more you crave junk food, the more food companies will profit.

Is the ‘Send To’ Menu opening up too slow in Windows?

Every time you right click and select the ‘Send To’ menu it takes ages to load. If the Send To menu is opening up slow when you right click on icons or files, it’s time you fix things right.

Here’s how you can make a slow-loading Send To menu load fast in Windows.

  • First, open the Run command by going to Start >> Run
  • Type sendto and hit Enter
  • A new window should open up listing the items that appear in your slow Send To menu
  • Delete all the unwanted items present there, they’re the cause for the slow loading Send To menu
  • If this doesn’t solve the problem, you’ll have to open Windows Explorer, go to Tools >> Folder Options >> and under the ‘View’ Tab, uncheck ‘Automatically search for network folders and printers’

That’s how you fix the slow loading ‘Send To’ menu in Windows

VINEGAR Can do Wonders for you

"White vinegar is good for cleaning the winter salt off of shoes and boots. Just dip a cotton ball in vinegar and wipe the shoes or boots."

"Vinegar keeps clothes from fading. One cup per laundry load."

"Baking soda & vinegar are my staple plumbing tools. Sprinkle baking soda in drains, then pour vinegar and voila! Your troubles literally bubble down the drain."

"Got pesky nats and fruit flies? Apple cider vinegar and a drop of dish soap in a small glass. Gnats and flies are attracted to the smell of the vinegar and soap kills them."

"Have a greasy stove top? Pour about 1/4 or less of white vinegar and using paper towels wipe the entire top of the stove (but not the gas jets). The odor dissipates immediately and the paper towel odor disappears as soon as it dries."

"White vinegar is good for nails with fungus. After cleaning the nail, wet the nail with a vinegar-soaked cotton ball andlet it dry. Repeat every day or after a shower."

"Vinegar does an awesome job of getting rid of getting rid of the nasty smell if your children vomit on the rug or other fabric. Just use a rag dampened with vinegar as you clean up. I learned this tip from a pediatrician."

"For athlete's foot relief, pour a cup of apple cider vinegar over foot morning and night for two days. Do not soak in it, just pour it over area. Stops itch immediately."

"If you ever have to paint galvanized metal, wash it first with white vinegar. It works almost as well as muriatic acid and is much safer to have around the house."

"White vinegar is useful as a fabric softener. Use one cup in the final rinse and trappeddetergent will be released. The laundry will be soft and fluffy, and no, there is not any vinegar odor in the fabrics."

"Use vinegar on sneakers after whitening them with chlorine to completely neutralize the clorine. It prevents yellowing and kills lingering foot odor. Vinager neutralizes the ammonia that can burn your skin in leather or canvas sneakers. Rinse with water after applying vinegar."

Weight Loss with a desert Plant

Every now and then, some miracle supplement hits the headlines and seems to answer all our weight loss prayers. Often these supplements are labeled as ‘natural’ – which seems to make us take leave of our senses and think that, because it has been produced by nature, it must be safe. If only that were so!

Hoodia is a desert plant, a bit like a cactus, and grows in arid regions like South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola. Apparently, the Bushmen of the Kalahari Desert relied on hoodia for years as a way to suppress appetite when they were out in the desert so, when ephedra was banned a few years ago, Hoodia became its natural successor in the weight loss world.

Does Hoodia work?

Well, there have been no studies published so far to say that it works in pill form, but scientists have discovered an active ingredient – a steroid - which has been called P57. So far it seems that P57 is only present in one form of Hoodia; Hoodia Gordonii.

There has been a study done on rats (poor things, they get to be studied all the time, don’t they!), which showed that, when they were injected with P57, the bit of their brain that registers hunger was altered. The thing is, rats’ brains are different to human brains and it’s far from sure if the same effect happens in our brains.

There has been a trial with humans, but it only included 18 people, which is not really enough to count. However, the people in the trial took in 1,000 less calories a day when compared to a group who received a dummy pill. Because this study wasn’t properly evaluated or reviewed by other scientists, we cannot be sure that it was undertaken properly. That means, as I said earlier, that it doesn’t count. It is interesting though.

How is Hoodia used?

Hoodia is widely available as tablets, capsule, powder, liquid, and tea. You will find this product all over the internet. However, there are various reports stating that up to 80% of the Hoodia available for purchase is counterfeit. That, of course, leads on to the next question:

How do I know that my Hoodia is real?

This is a very difficult question to answer because there are so many unscrupulous dealers around; they even fake certificates, so there is no guarantee. All we can really advise is that you should be extremely cautious if you would even consider purchasing Hoodia. If you want to get a sample analyzed, you could try US company, Alkemists Pharmaceuticals. The license holder for P57 is a UK company, Phytopharm.

Does Hoodia have any side effects?

Well, it certainly isn’t ready yet for FDA approval! And that is because there is some evidence that Hoodia might have some unwanted side effects as far as the liver is concerned. The liver is the body’s ‘vacuum cleaner,’ taking away all the poisons we accumulate, as well as dead and dying cells. If the liver can’t detox the blood of Hoodia, then these concerns must be taken seriously – if the liver can’t do it, nothing can!

The very fact that Hoodia may affect the liver means that it may also interact with other drugs (because all chemicals are cleansed by the liver); this being the case, it would seem sensible to proceed very cautiously if you are on any medication or drug regime (whether prescribed or over the counter).

Additionally, if you are a pregnant or nursing mother, or suffer with liver or kidney disease, you should avoid Hoodia at all costs.

Should you use Hoodia?

I have always been in favor of natural weight loss through exercise and by eating healthy foods in moderation. The food industry is a multi billion business and people will claim anything to sell their products and take their share of the money pie. It’s quite possible some products such as diet pills may help in some kind of way to lose weight, but very often, you won’t be served well at all.

Most of the time, if not always, the so called “weight loss” products will make you lose body fluids instead of fat. You think you’re losing weight, but you’re not. If that’s not the case, it’s quite possible you will suffer other harmfull side effects which will definitely do your overall health status no good.

However, I think it’s still worth taking notice of these new products. While most of them may not have much effect at all, some day a weight loss product might be invented that actually works. Such a product could definitely not replace the health benefits of regular exercise and a healthy diet,… but it could possibly be of great help for some obese people, to give them a headstart in their journey to a healthier lifestyle.

Untill then, I'd keep eating those healthy fruits and vegetables and remain physically active as the ultimate way to lose those love handles.

HONEY can be used for...

"Clean minor wounds and scratches with Peroxide, place a little bit of honey on the wound, bandage with a bandaid or gauze, then leave it for 3 or 4 days and the wound should be healed. Honey prevents the wound from sticking to the bandage as you remove it."

http://a.abcnews.com/images/Health/pd_honey_071204_ms.jpg

"Honey, when sterilized can be used to dress a wound the is resistent to antibiotics. Honey will not overstimulate your liver.Honey is the oldest known sweetener and will never spoil."

Annoying Things To Do On An Elevator

CRACK open your briefcase or handbag, peer Inside and ask "Got enough air in there?"

STAND silent and motionless in the corner facing the wall without getting off.

WHEN arriving at your floor, grunt and strain to yank the doors open, then act as if you're embarrassed when they open themselves.

GREET everyone with a warm handshake and ask him or her to call you Admiral.

MEOW occasionally.

STARE At another passenger for a while. Then announce in horror: "You're one of THEM" - and back away slowly

SAY -DING at each floor.

SAY "I wonder what all these do?" And push all the red buttons.

MAKE explosion noises when anyone presses a button.

STARE, grinning at another passenger for a while, then announce: "I have new socks on."

WHEN the elevator is silent, look around and ask: "Is that your beeper?"

TRY to make personal calls on the emergency phone.

DRAW a little square on the floor with chalk and announce to the other passengers: "This is my personal space."

WHEN there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder, then pretend it wasn't you.

PUSH the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.

ASK if you can push the button for other people but push the wrong ones.

HOLD the doors open and say you're waiting for your friend. After a while, let the doors close and say "Hi Greg, How's your day been?"

DROP a pen and wail until someone reaches to help pick it up, then scream: "That's mine!"

BRING a camera and take pictures of everyone in the lift.

PRETEND you're a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the Passengers.

SWAT at flies that don't exist.

CALL out "Group hug" then enforce it.

Not Happy with your Windows XP

If you can’t get enough of the default options in Windows XP, and want to tweak it to the utmost level without getting into the registry and messing up with stuff, you could download any one of the following software that let you tweak Windows XP easily:

TweakUI

TweakUI gives you access to modify settings that necessarily cannot be changed in Windows XP. Over a hundred default settings can be modified by using the TweakUI Control Panel Applet. Integrating very well with the default interface, this tool is very lightweight as well.

FreshUI

FreshUI comes from the makers of Fresh Diagnose, and is a separate program that can be downloaded here. It lets you tweak lots of settings than TweakUI, and is great for users who’re a bit advanced. You can restore the modifications you’ve made with a single click. Its scope is more wide than TweakUI.

People who paint on Sky

Bread not only goes with Butter

"For home-made cookies that are too crispy, put them in a sealed container with slices of bread covering them. The moisture from the bread will absorb into the cookies, making them soft!"

"To make dried out brown sugar like new, put one slice of bread into the box or bag of dry sugar for a few hours. The moisture from the bread goes into the sugar, and the bread dries out. No need to put in an airtight container. Just stick the bread on top of the sugar, and close the box or bag as usual."

"Have a boil or large pimple? Soak a small piece of bread in milk, attach the piece of bread over the boil using tape or another fastener, and the milk will dry out the boil, decreasing its size. Best if done overnight. Toothpaste can also be used to dry out pimples."

"A piece of white bread will stop a cut from bleeding"

But what helps bread stay fresh? "To keep bread longer place a carrot in the bag. It will freshen bread like it was just baked."

KETCHUP not just a sauce

"Ketchup is a really good moisturizer. All you have to do is wash your hands with soap and water (make sure no soap suds are left), dry hands, take some ketchup and rub around your hands. Make sure there's no excess ketchup, and then wash gently."

http://www.baronfoodsltd.com/Images/Fruits/ketchup.gif

"Use ketchup as a gold & silver tarnish remover. Mix ketchup (enough to completely cover the item) with baking soda until it is slightly firm. Place your pure (not plated) item into the mixure & let it sit completely coveredfor 30 minutes (or longer depending on tarnish level), then rub with a dry face cloth (or scrub with a toothbrush if heavily tarnished). Rinse mixture with water and dry."

Ice not just for your cold drinks

"When you move a piece of furniture and the area is all matted down, put a few ice cubes on the spot and allow them to melt. Then vacuum and voila! The spot looks as good as the area around it."

"Use several teaspoons of salt and some crushed ice to clean coffee pots. Just add the 2 into the dry pot and swirl for several minutes."

"Ice is magic! I have used it on my clothes, in restaurants and all over my house. I'm not sure why it works on oily stains, but it almost always does. I have not found a spot that won't disappear or fade greatly when covered or rubbed with ice."

"Ever sit on someone else's nasty chewing gum? Regular ice will do the trick! Just rub ice on it and you'll have an easier time taking off that disgusting chewing gum."

Irritate Telemarketer

10. When they ask "How are you today?" Tell them! "I'm so glad you asked because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems; my arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died."

9. If they say they're John Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where their company is located. Continue asking them personal questions or questions about their for as long as necessary. Such as when did their company start, who was the founder, are they still with company?

8. Cry out in surprise, the name of the telemarker name such as "Judy! Is that you? Oh my God! Judy, how have you been?" Hopefully, this will give "Judy" a few brief moments of pause as she tries to figure out where the hell she could know you from.

7. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends plan, reply, in as SINISTER a voice as you can, "I don't have any friends... would you be my friend?"

6. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money.

5. Tell the telemarketer you are on "home arrest" and ask if they could bring you a case of beer and some chips.

4. After the telemarketer gives their spiel, ask him/her to marry you. When they get all flustered, tell them that you could not just give your credit card number to a complete stranger.

3. Tell the telemarketer you are busy at the moment and ask them if they will give you their HOME phone number so you can call them back. When the telemarketer explains that they cannot give out their HOME number, you say "I guess you don't want anyone bothering you at home, right?" The telemarketer will agree and you say, "Now you know how I feel!"

2. Insist that the caller is really your buddy Leon, playing a joke. "Come on Leon, cut it out! Seriously, Leon, how's your momma?"

And first and foremost:

1. Tell them to talk VERY SLOWLY, because you want to write EVERY WORD down.
